IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN!

It's
coming up to this time of year again when we make New Year Resolutions.
For me there is always something new and exciting about the new year.
Its full of promise and it's a bit akin to be given a chance to wipe the
slate clean and starting over. Most of us look back on the old year and
say, "Oh I hope the new year will be better", but instead look back
over the old year and see how far you have come. It's doesn't matter if
its been a bad year, its been a learning curve, and although you may not
yet realise it , you eventually will. You will see how you have grown
stronger, your ability to cope will have improved, you will think more
and become more resourceful, but even better you will have a unique
ability to understand and be able to help those souls who will cross
your path, who are not as strong as you and you will be able to help.
Sometimes all the help someone needs is an ear and ear to listen and not
judge, it helps others see and understand what their problems are and
through doing so it can help those to help themselves. This is the basis
of good counselling, its not about giving advice, nor telling someone
what to do about their problems, its about listening and being
empathetic in a non judgemental way, this then ables people to take
stock of their life and see their problems from a different view point,
instead of panicking and they think, gosh here is someone who listens
and understands me. I'm a great believer in, "Never let anyone go
without the better from having seen you". Believe when I say the reward
is in the giving.
Many resolutions don't last because we
set the stakes too high, so instead of trying to achieve a lot, try to
do a little on a daily basis by the end of the year you will be amazed
on how well you have done. Be kind to yourself to help others first you
must take care of yourself, that doesn't mean you become selfish, but
that you are in a strong and healthy position to give you the strength
and stamina to see the tasks through. So set reasonable, achievable
goals and you will do much better than you ever expected.
